As the holidays approach, we all get excited with the prospect of the cold air, leaves changing, and the copious amounts of food to be consumed. MD Today wishes you all a happy holiday season. To kick the holiday season off, here are a few tips to have a safe and healthy Thanksgiving.

  1. Keep an eye on those fats. First of all, you don’t need a lot of oil or butter to cook some of your favorite dishes. So use only enough oil to cook, don’t drown your vegetables and meat!
  2. Move towards substitutions. For example, keep the yummy flavors of your dishes while using fat free chicken broth. Similarly, you can also do the same for sodium.
  3. Stay active. After having your 10-course Thanksgiving meal, make it a point to go on a short walk after an hour. Walking will help your body digest, so you don’t feel as bloated throughout the rest of the night.
  4. Watch your fingers! In the excitement of preparation, be sure not to cut yourself or a loved one. Consequently, if someone does get hurt, come in to MD Today and we’ll stitch you up!*
  5. Don’t overeat. Over eating causes gas and bloating which can lead to stomach pain and heartburn.

Keep these tips in mind so you will not only have a happy, but healthy Thanksgiving day. Have a happy Turkey Day folks and have a great holiday season!

On another exciting note, MD Today is hosting a Black Friday Special this year! Get $10 off a flu shot, sport physical or TB test at either of our locations all day.

*We are closed on Thanksgiving Day. However, we re-open Friday from 8am-8pm.
